Staff Profile:

In my earlier research, I have focused on the nexus between the choices of language resources and meaning in political discourse. I have also examined the relationship between linguistic choices and representations expressed in discourses on Nigeria’s security challenges using a blend of Systemic Functional Linguistics and some strands of Critical Discourse Analysis. Also, I have researched multimodal discourse, where I examined verbal and non-verbal communication codes in academic and political discourses. In addition, I have examined the relationship between ideologies and discursive strategies employed by social actors on prominent issues in the country. As I advance in my career, I intend to continue to focus on language and how it is mediatised on issues of national concern. I am particularly interested in linguistic studies with interdisciplinary approches on themes such as gender and sexual -based violence, security or terrorism, drug abuse and corruption.
